Our stories | Rescue of mother and newborn baby onboard inflatable boat off the coast of Spain
One of our first missions of 2025 is certainly one we will remember! On Three Kings Day, a major festive holiday in Spain, our crew rescued a mother and her newborn baby from an inflatable boat 80 miles off the coast of Lanzarote.
Our crew were alerted to the emergency in the evening of January 6th, and arrived to find 60 people on board, among them 14 women and four children, including the baby girl who had been born just 10 to 20 minutes prior to their arrival.
Mother and baby girl were hoisted to safety and transferred to a hospital in Lanzarote by our helicopter.
Domingo Trujillo, the captain of the Talía search and rescue vessel, said that although the crew were aware a woman on the boat was pregnant, they had no idea she had already given birth.
On such a special day, the crew were delighted to play a part in the rescue: “Being Three Kings Day, this was the best gift we could have received!” said Avincis’ Alvaro Serrano Perez, Commander of the crew.
We are incredibly grateful for our crew’s continued dedication, courage and resilience. Always showcasing the true meaning of ‘Every mission matters.’
We are happy to report that mother and baby are doing well.
